Suburbia is mysterious — a primorial Garden of Eden idealized during the postwar years of the American 50’s. Engendered by affluence and oppressive conformity, but recalled by the taboos of furtive beefcake mags and desperate football moms. It remains a cornucopia of teenage reveries — green lawns of hormonal excess and ever-surreal fetishhes. In attempting to distill the attitudes, hopes, and longings in ways that touch the everyday, we’ve focused on: (1) high school, (2) church and faith, (3) muscle mania, and (4) porn valley — all less as suburbia’s revered institutions and more as its fevered states of mind.Â
